The way that sublimation works is the ink on the sublimation paper when heated to a high temperature turns into a gas. Then the pores of the clear polymer surface open up and allow that gas to enter.
When when the temperature is brought down, the pores close up and the ink is trapped inside.
Thus, the image is actually a part of the surface. Meaning it can not be scratched, washed, or peeled off. It can however dinged, worn down, damaged by water or extended direct sunlight. You should never wear your jewelry in salt water be it gold, silver, or anything other than Stainless Steel Sublimation remains one of the most durable forms of printing on hard surfaces, above transfers and laser methods.
